The Characters You’ll Encounter

Highlights

  • There are no fewer than 46 different characters weaving their way through each performance of “O”.
  • Brace yourself for L'Allumé, an absent-minded drifter who doesn't seem to notice he’s been engulfed by fire.
  • Watch towards the start of the show, as the lovely Aurora descends from the heights of the theater to catch the eye of Philemon.

Philemon

O Philemon Character

As the opening curtain is swept away, so too is Philemon, an unsuspecting young Sicilian.

For a brief moment (or perhaps an eternity) our young Philemon is the happy captive of a world that drifts and shifts like a kaleidoscope.

While his character is rooted in Italian folklore, his journey is universally felt. A curious soul called to adventure, discovering the world around him and the world within him.

Le Vieux, The Theatre Director

Le Vieux, The Theatre Director

Le Vieux has been the theatre’s director longer than anyone can remember. He knows all the stories, has seen everything, heard everything. He is the theatre’s living memory.

Le Vieux orchestrates Philemon’s adventure into “O”, helping our hero navigate through this liquid labyrinthine, and leading him to the beautiful Aurora.

Take notice throughout the performance as Eugen himself transforms from dark to light, symbolizing the cycle of life where what’s old becomes new again.

The Clowns

The Clowns

With their signature blend of antics and humanity, the Clowns rekindle the child in us all.

These two unique personalities take center stage on more than one occasion, drifting about, finding their place in the world, and growing close through a comedy of errors.

You can’t help but be captivated by the movement, timing, and comedy.

The Zebras

The Zebras

Clad in black and white stripes, the Zebras are an unmistakable presence throughout “O”. You’ll find these mischievous souls scampering about, embracing each other, and exploring the world around them.

When away from their herd, they gaze upon their surroundings with the curiosity of a child. When banded together, their energy bursts into dance and affection.

Keep your eyes open for these lively creatures as they graze the stage and evoke a sense of wilderness.

The Nage

The Nage

Out of the primeval waters emerge two feet, then four, then eight. Feet become legs, legs become bodies, until finally we meet the masked faces of the Nage: the mermaids, nymphs, and lost souls roaming the depths of the sea.

But be not afraid. These long-haired beauties are but figureheads fallen from the bows of sunken ships. There to accompany all those who brave the waters.

Featuring Olympic synchronized swimmers, the Nage appear in nearly every act, moving in perfect sync despite the ever-shifting stage of “O”.
